  Warren T. Doolittle

Warren passed away on March 20, 2013, at age 91. He spent his entire career with the USDA- Forest Service (Research). When he retired in 1980, he volunteered with the International Society of Tropical Foresters (ISTF), and served as President for nearly 20 years. His resumé (short form) reads as follows:

USDA Forest Service 1946-1980 (Research), Associate Deputy Chief 1975-1980, President of Society of American Foresters, 1986; Council member 1974-1975 & 1978-1979; Fellow 1977; Acting Director of Resource Policy 1981-1982; member of Committee on World Forestry 1982-1983. Bernhard Eduard Fernow Award in 1993—an award made annually by agreement between American Forests and the German Forestry Association—in recognition of outstanding achievements in international forestry.
In the March 2004 issue of ISTF News (p. 3), we thanked Warren:
Farewell, and Thanks!

Dr. Warren T. Doolittle, President of ISTF from 1984 to the start of 2002, recently informed us that he would be dropping his ISTF volunteer activities, due to a lingering back problem. We don’t let our volunteers escape easily, but this gentleman has given far more than was called for, and we greatly appreciate his stalwart contribution over the years. His membership in ISTF continues, so we know he will require that we continue along the high standard he set for us so many years ago.

Warren, we wish you the very best in all future endeavors, and offer you our sincere “farewell, and thanks”.

ISTF Staff

Warren will be missed not only by his family, but also by his many colleagues who respected and admired him.
