Registration is now open for the
symposium "International Implications of the Biofuels Industry -
Social, Economic, and Environmental Perspectives." <http://clubs.ncsu.edu/istf/symposium09/registration_09.html>
(This symposium is hosted by the NCSU Student chapter of International
Society of Tropical Foresters.)
The biofuels industry has been growing fast this past decade due to the
current indications that biofuels are a "green" way to reduce dependency
on unsustainable fossil fuels. As with other new technologies and
approaches, however, weighing the benefits and the costs is important to
gain a better understanding of its possible impacts. What are the
potential impacts on consumers, landowners, markets, and the environment
when we trade one fuel source for others? This symposium will give you the
opportunity to discuss these issues as you hear from:
- International experts about global implications.
- Local practitioners about their experiences on-the-ground.
- Local and international policy-makers about future concerns and
directions.
- Other students, faculty, and professionals interested in environmental,
social, and economic issues.
When: Friday, April 17th
Where: NC State University, Raleigh, NC. E.S. King Village Commons on
Central Campus
